About
The Street Law program empowers students from working-class areas with knowledge of their basic legal rights and the tools they need to advocate for themselves. Led by Angbeen Atif Mirza, Assistant Professor at the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (LUMS), and students from her “Street Law” course, the program has a proven track record of success. Ms. Mirza has organized similar programs at American Lycetuff, Harsukh, Bali Orphanage (Cavalry branch), Umeed School, School of Science and Technology (STS), and other institutions.
The Action Research Collective, a non-profit organization, is excited to partner with Ms. Mirza and her team as part of our mission to nurture programs and research that directly impact the lives of Lahore’s most vulnerable population. Through regularly conducted workshops, the Street Law program equips students with the knowledge and resources they need to understand and assert their rights, giving them the power to navigate the legal system and advocate for themselves. The program will be concurrently running across eight low-fee private schools from Chungi Amar-Sidhu during Spring 2023. Join us in our mission to uplift the most marginalized members of our society through education and access to justice.
How do I get involved?
Are you a lawyer or a law student interested in public and community law? Then the Street Law program is the perfect opportunity for you.
Due to the technical nature of the program, it is currently open to lawyers and lawyers in training. This is a particularly great opportunity for law students to work closely with Ms. Angbeen Atif Mirza, Assistant Professor at the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (LUMS) and her team and learn from them as well as develop their pedagogy.
We will be holding weekly classes for students from grade 6-8th from the start of February to the end of April. As a volunteer counselor, you will have the opportunity to provide guidance and support to students as they learn about their legal rights and gain the skills, they need to advocate for themselves.
If you’re interested in getting involved, please contact us to learn more about volunteer opportunities and how you can make a difference. We look forward to having you on board as part of our team
